Floor

Hi everyone.

It's been a little bit, mostly because of the weather and a little bit because of work.  A few things have happened since the last post.

First, the foundation has been tarred, and then covered with a dimpled plastic for waterproofing.

Once that happens, Gravel that has been placed around the perimeter is shoveled against the foundation to assist with drainage. Kind of a boring way to spend your Saturday

Once all of that is in place, then back filling is next.

While backfilling happens, 2x4s are run along the top of the foundation for the floor joists to sit on, and window wells are installed.

Then, the beams to hold up the floor, and the rest of the house, have been installed on jack posts down to concrete footings.  The concrete in the middle is to support the fireplace in the main room.

Next, The floor joists have been installed, which means that you can really start to appreciate the size of the main floor.

These are our temportary stairs, which are in the location of what will eventually be our actual stairs.

Finally, work has begun on installing the plywood subfloor, which will eventually cover the entire main level of the house.

Foundation

Hi everyone,

We now have a foundation.

Not being at the site as often this time, there will most likely only be an update once a week or so, and with the rain being what it has been, there have been some delays.

Now that the foundation is complete, filling all the little holes for water is the next step.

And that's where we are right now.

Stay tuned, hopefully more interesting things will happen in the near future.

Oh no, we did it again.

Well, folks.  We did it again.  We decided that we didn't owe enough people enough money and that we were living entirely too comfortably.  So, we've done what any two reasonable adults (and one mostly oblivious baby) would do; we're going build a bigger house.

It doesn't look like much here, but it's already past the vacant lot stage, and into the hole in the gound stage.

It's gonna be a big one...

Move-in day.

Hey there.  Good to see you.  Just a quick update: We have officially moved into our house.  Here are some pictures of the final product.

Day 66 - Looking Good

So we're trucking right along, which is great.  Our closing date is July 26th, so between now and then there is a lot of work to do.

Day 65: The finishing touches.

So it's been a while, mostly because our floor was on back order.  However, now it's in, so we're back on track.

At the moment, a lot of the finishing touches have been added to the house. One example is the parging, which apparently is not as commonplace as you would think.

The other big addition is our light fixtures, which have all been installed.

The bathroom.

The dining room.

So finally the flooring has begun.  The hardwood floor has been delivered, and they've also started installation.

The final thing that I've been doing in the house involves sandwich bags and insulation.  No, it's not the worst packed lunch ever, it's a process designed to stop rattling from the ventilation ducts.

Apparently this is not a make work project, but also something that no one else in the city does. Quality work, ladies and gentlemen.

Day 62 - 64: Paint.

And on the 62 Day the painter man said, "Let there be PAINT!" 

After much consideration (on my part) and a whole lot of "stop making up nonsensical adjectives to describe the imaginary colour in your head and just pick something from the damn paint fan already!” (on Alex’s part,) we’ve finally made a paint decision.

Although the pictures don’t entirely do it justice, here is “Nature’s Bounty,” which is throughout the entire house except for the bathroom and “Infinitely Classy,” which is, well, in the bathroom, for your viewing pleasure:

It's the perfect mix of nonsensical adjectives, don't you think?

That is one infinitely classy bathroom if I do say so myself.

I know we’ve said stuff like, “it’s really starting to look like a house now,” in the past… but this time we mean it. With the paint on the walls, you can really start to visualize it and it is starting to feel like HOME. 

We should have another update for you before the week is through as the electrician is expected to pop by and hang the light fixtures.
