Roof and sealing the house.

Things have been crazy with Felix and summer, so I'm going to post a bunch of photos that probably aren't in the right order.  Since the last update, the house now has a roof, and shingles.  The basement and garage are prepped to pour concrete, and the ceiling is being strapped for partition walls and insulation.  Windows and doors are in, including garage doors.

Framing Exterior Walls

While I was away, the plywood subfloor was completed, meaning that framing exterior walls could begin.

This is the longest wall for the house, which includes the master bedroom, bathroom, and one of the other bedrooms.

Just a picture of 2x6s laid out to be marked for a wall.

This is the window seat.  After the studs are nailed in, cross braces are installed in order to keep the walls square.

Raising the wall.  The vertical 2x4 has a jack attached to it to bring the wall up.

The metal braces are pretty cool.  They are threaded at the top so you can push/pull the wall out by rotating the brace.

Looking at the wall from the outside.

This is one of the bedrooms at the front of the house.

This will be the master bedroom.  The hole in the floor is where the fireplace will be in the main room.

It's starting to really look like a house now.

Floor

Hi everyone.

It's been a little bit, mostly because of the weather and a little bit because of work.  A few things have happened since the last post.

First, the foundation has been tarred, and then covered with a dimpled plastic for waterproofing.

Once that happens, Gravel that has been placed around the perimeter is shoveled against the foundation to assist with drainage. Kind of a boring way to spend your Saturday

Once all of that is in place, then back filling is next.

While backfilling happens, 2x4s are run along the top of the foundation for the floor joists to sit on, and window wells are installed.

Then, the beams to hold up the floor, and the rest of the house, have been installed on jack posts down to concrete footings.  The concrete in the middle is to support the fireplace in the main room.

Next, The floor joists have been installed, which means that you can really start to appreciate the size of the main floor.

These are our temportary stairs, which are in the location of what will eventually be our actual stairs.

Finally, work has begun on installing the plywood subfloor, which will eventually cover the entire main level of the house.

That's the Cole's Notes of everything.  Hopefully I will be able to post more consistently and let you know what is going on.

Foundation

Hi everyone,

We now have a foundation.

Not being at the site as often this time, there will most likely only be an update once a week or so, and with the rain being what it has been, there have been some delays.

Now that the foundation is complete, filling all the little holes for water is the next step.

And that's where we are right now.

Stay tuned, hopefully more interesting things will happen in the near future.

Oh no, we did it again.

Well, folks.  We did it again.  We decided that we didn't owe enough people enough money and that we were living entirely too comfortably.  So, we've done what any two reasonable adults (and one mostly oblivious baby) would do; we're going build a bigger house.

It doesn't look like much here, but it's already past the vacant lot stage, and into the hole in the gound stage.

It's gonna be a big one...

Later Days.
